Pandoer (2009 – ) Pandoer came to us on Christmas Eve in 2009. His first night with us is one our old neighbors won’t soon forget—he howled like a wolf all night long!  Pandoer was our second dog, after our first companion, Ozzy, sadly and unexpectedly developed leukemia. We had to say goodbye to him when he was just five years old. Pandoer was a gift who helped ease the pain and sorrow of losing Ozzy, and because of that, he holds a truly special place in our hearts—without taking away from the others. Pandoer is full of energy. Even now, at nearly 15 and a half years old, he still wants to play with his ball, even if things go a little slower these days. He’s the most vocal of all our dogs and will definitely let you know when he thinks it’s time to play. Pandoer is a…

Summer Journey 2025 – Together on the Way to New Memories On Tuesday, June 24th, our new adventure begins: an 11-week voyage through the beautiful Netherlands aboard Mister Bojangles. Together with our loyal four-legged companions, Pandoer and Chester – now almost 16 years old – we’re looking forward to a summer filled with peace, nature, encounters, and memories. This year, we have big plans: we want to head south toward Zeeland and slowly return north via the major rivers. A journey full of variety, new destinations, and old favorites. But 2025 will also be a year of goodbyes. That’s why our goal this season is clear: to create beautiful moments, cherish memories, and enjoy being together – on the water, with each other. Follow us here on our journey. We’d love to take you along.

Our current yacht is an Abim Classic 128 Exclusive. The yacht was built in 2016 by the Abim Yachting shipyard in Ossenzijl. The first owner equipped the boat with many extras, such as a more powerful 160 HP Vetus Deutz engine, satellite, and radar. Since 2023, we have been the proud owners of this fantastic boat! Length: 13.25 metersHeight: 3.75 meters (can be lowered to 3.40 meters)Beam: 4.25 metersDraft: 1.05 meters In 2006, we decided to buy a different, larger yacht with more comfort and luxury. After a long search, we accidentally came across this beautiful Boarncruiser 1000S at the Boarnstream shipyard in Jirnsum. We instantly fell in love and knew right away that this was the one. We named it “Mister Bojangles” because it’s one of our favorite songs and it’s a bold name. This Boarncruiser 1000S was built in 2001 and gave us an incredible amount of joy and…

Chester (2009 – ) The oldest of the “rascal gang” and one with a very unique character. He loves doing things his own way and only what he enjoys. In his younger years, he would often chase after rabbits—he’d look at you, completely ignore your warnings, and be off in an instant. Chester came to us in 2012 as a temporary rehoming, but that “temporary” quickly turned into a permanent family member. Together with his half-brothers Pandoer and Harley, they earned the nickname “The Three Musketeers” or “The Rascal Gang.” A wonderful brotherhood! Now, Chester is nearly 16 years old (in July), and the years are definitely catching up with him. Despite being deaf, blind in one eye, and living with dementia, he still finds joy in life. We hope he’ll be able to enjoy another beautiful boating holiday this summer.

Ozzy (2004 – 2009) Ozzy joined us in July 2004 and was our very first dog. Since we were last on the list, Ozzy was the puppy nobody wanted. That didn’t matter to us—we quickly discovered he was the best little friend we could ever have!Ozzy was so well-behaved and well-trained that he could walk off-leash right beside me and never strayed from my side.He was a calm companion—he chased a stick only twice before deciding that was enough. He loved cuddles and, for some reason, always had a habit of sniffing flowers. In early October 2009, we noticed he wasn’t feeling well. A blood test revealed that he was suffering from a very aggressive form of leukemia. We had to make the hardest decision we never imagined facing—saying goodbye after only five short years. We still miss him deeply. He now has a small memorial in our garden, since…

Harley (2010 – 2020) Harley was our third companion, whom we welcomed into our family a few months after Pandoer. A Kooikerhondje with quite a strong-willed personality. Harley loved to sniff around and often wandered off on his own paths through the woods and heathlands. When all the dogs were on-leash, Harley was the undisputed leader of the pack—just don’t try to overtake him, because he’d gladly give you a warning nip! Raised by Pandoer, who is six months older, the two were inseparable. Always close to one another, and they protected each other whenever needed. In October 2020, Harley was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer, and once again, we had to say goodbye to one of our beloved companions far too soon. We still miss him every single day…

Carolyn Born in Carshalton, United Kingdom, Carolyn—like Ewout—was introduced to boating at an early age. Her father was a sea sailor who could often be found along the English coast or sailing in the Mediterranean. When she moved to the Netherlands for work, she met Ewout, and together they continued to pursue their shared passion for boating. The Dutch waterways were new to Carolyn, but she quickly felt at home. Being on the boat is a way for her to relax and escape the busyness of everyday life. With three Kooikerhondjes on board, it’s still a lot of work—but especially Friesland offers many lovely islands that are perfect for long walks, particularly early in the morning while everyone else is still asleep. Carolyn is an early bird and makes full use of those quiet hours. Together with Ewout, they make a great team—and when docking in a harbour or passing…

Ewout Born and raised in Hilversum, Ewout grew up at an early age with his parents’ boat. Every weekend was spent on Oud Loosdrecht and the Loosdrechtse Plassen, where his love for water sports began to develop. After finishing school, he joined the Royal Netherlands Navy, where he served aboard vessels including the HNLMS Tromp. After his time in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Carolyn. When his parents decided to sell the boat he had grown up with, Carolyn and Ewout decided to take it over. De Waterman, a Westeind Kruiser, was the perfect starter boat for exploring the Dutch waterways together. A few years later, they decided to buy a larger boat, which they named Mister Bojangles. In 2018, Ewout and Carolyn made the decision to leave the Netherlands and move to the United Kingdom, where they now live. This also marked (at least for…

Travel Journal 2024 Finally, after a long winter and an extremely wet spring, the time has come for us. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get to the boat until the end of June due to a renovation at our house, which—because of all the weather delays—ended up taking nearly two months longer than planned. Car packed, Pandoer and Chester are with us again this year, though they’re each slowing down a bit more. Chester is almost 15, and Pandoer will turn 15 in October. This time we’re traveling through France and Belgium via the tunnel, as no dog cabins were available on the Stena Line. That’s a shame, as the night crossing has been ideal since 2022—when dogs were finally allowed to stay with us in special cabins instead of the kennel or the car. We arrive early in Hoek van Holland, and as soon as we’re through customs, we immediately feel…

Finally…After five years without a boat, we found our new ship and were able to take it over through Jachtbemiddeling Sterkenburg in Drimmelen. After months of searching, we came across this ABIM Classic 128 Exclusive, and after viewing it several times, it became clear—this had to be the one. The name has been changed, and as of May 2023, the boat has been renamed “Mister Bojangles.” At the beginning of June, the moment finally arrived! Our journey could begin—with a long trip from southern England, taking the ferry from Harwich to Hoek van Holland, followed by a short drive to Drimmelen. At last, we were back in the place where we can once again find peace and capture beautiful memories. After about two weeks of unpacking, organizing, and rearranging, we were finally ready: “The Maiden Voyage” could begin. First, a quick fuel stop at the Bunkerstation on the Donge. We…
