Ewout

Born and raised in Hilversum, Ewout grew up at an early age with his parents’ boat. Every weekend was spent on Oud Loosdrecht and the Loosdrechtse Plassen, where his love for water sports began to develop.

After finishing school, he joined the Royal Netherlands Navy, where he served aboard vessels including the HNLMS Tromp. After his time in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Carolyn.

When his parents decided to sell the boat he had grown up with, Carolyn and Ewout decided to take it over. De Waterman, a Westeind Kruiser, was the perfect starter boat for exploring the Dutch waterways together. A few years later, they decided to buy a larger boat, which they named Mister Bojangles.

In 2018, Ewout and Carolyn made the decision to leave the Netherlands and move to the United Kingdom, where they now live. This also marked (at least for the time being) the end of their boating adventures in the Netherlands.

In 2022, the boating itch returned—partly because both of them now had more free time. So the search began for a beautiful boat suitable for longer stays. In early 2023, they found a stunning vessel: an Abim Classic 128 Exclusive. After several viewings and a trial run, during which a marine surveyor inspected everything, they officially became boat owners again in March 2023.

For now, they will continue boating in the Netherlands due to their aging dogs, but plans are already in place to head toward the lakes around Berlin—and even as far as Denmark and Sweden.
